Redevelopment of a problematic standard three-room & kitchen apartment into a modern two-bedroom layout: an open-plan kitchen–living area, a master bedroom, a children’s room, and well-designed storage systems — maximum comfort across 91 m².
Two-Bedroom Apartment 91m
Two-Bedroom Apartment 91m
Interior design of a 91 m² two-bedroom apartment in the residential complex “Primorsky Quarter”, Saint Petersburg.
The redevelopment transforms a standard three-room apartment into a two-bedroom format — a unified shared family space (kitchen–dining–living room) and two private rooms (a master bedroom and a children’s room). The design is executed in a contemporary style with elements of Scandinavian minimalism, focusing on functionality, comfort, and a well-thought-out storage organization.
Project objectives
- Eliminate inefficient use of the entryway and corridors.
- Create a spacious shared area for everyday living and entertaining guests.
- Provide two full-fledged private rooms for the family (bedroom and children’s room).
- Integrate built-in storage and ensure convenient circulation throughout the apartment.
Layouts before and after
Analysis of the original layout
- An entry hall of 16.45 m² divided by a load-bearing wall into two narrow corridors — formally large in area, but cramped and uncomfortable in practice.
- The guest bathroom was located close to the entrance, creating congestion and complicating access deeper into the apartment.
- Left wing: a 13.91 m² kitchen and a 20.24 m² room separated by a partition — individually, these spaces did not provide a satisfactory set of functions (neither a полноценная living room nor a comfortable dining area).
- The route between the kitchen and the room was inconvenient — via a corridor — disrupting logic and everyday comfort.
New planning solution
- The partition between the kitchen and the adjacent room was dismantled, creating a unified shared space of 34.67 m².
- The common area is logically zoned: a niche kitchen, dining area, living room with TV zone, and a separate workspace for two workstations.
- The guest bathroom was relocated to the far part of the hall, relieving the entryway and opening up the passage to the living area.
- By redistributing the area of the right-side corridor, both the master bedroom and the children’s room were expanded.
After redevelopment
- A combined kitchen–dining–living space of 34.67 m² with a corner niche kitchen, dining group, TV lounge with sofa, and a workspace for two.
- A 16 m² master bedroom with generous built-in storage.
- A 16 m² children’s room with a workspace and storage — everything needed for living, studying, and relaxation.
- An entry hall of 7.76 m² — optimal in size, with storage and a convenient passage into the living area.
- Two bathrooms: a main bathroom of 5.56 m² with a bathtub and laundry zone, and a guest bathroom of 1.71 m² with a toilet and sink.
- On the 3.6 m² loggia, a cozy relaxation corner and built-in storage systems are arranged.
