This project is a balance of restraint, a warm beige palette, and carefully considered ergonomics. We transformed the original layout into a contemporary living environment where every square meter works for the owner’s comfort.
The key planning move was the removal of unnecessary partitions, which made it possible to unite the kitchen, dining area, and living room into a single space of over 22 m². This zone acts as the bright core of the interior.

One-Bedroom Apartment 89m
Redevelopment and interior design of a one-bedroom apartment, 89 m², in a contemporary style, Primorsky Quarter residential complex, Saint Petersburg.
Kitchen–Dining–Living Area
Style and overall concept
The design is executed in the style of “soft minimalism.” The main idea is to create an open, clean space, where the absence of excessive décor is compensated by a richness of textures and a sophisticated lighting scheme.
Palette
The color scheme is monochrome and warm, built on subtle nuances.
Base: milky white, creamy, and sandy-beige wall tones.
Accents: natural wood (oak/walnut), terracotta and honey tones (fruit, décor), as well as graphite elements (picture frames, chair legs, appliances) to add visual clarity.
Metal: matte brass and copper in lighting fixtures.
Materials
Flooring: in the kitchen and dining areas, porcelain stoneware with a terrazzo effect (fine stone inclusions) is used; in the living room — engineered wood or laminate in a warm wood tone.
Walls: matte paint complemented by decorative vertical wooden panels that add rhythm and conceal storage systems.
Textiles: light white sheer curtains on the windows and dense drapes matching the wall tones. Upholstery is made of cozy bouclé or textured fabric.
Lighting (multi-level scenario)
Dining area: three cascading pendant lights with smoked-glass shades and golden bases.
Living area: a futuristic chandelier composed of several intersecting illuminated copper-colored rings.
Technical lighting: magnetic track systems on the kitchen ceiling and recessed spotlights.
Decorative lighting: LED strips in open shelving and above the kitchen worktop.
Furniture and equipment
Kitchen: a concise kitchen set with smooth fronts. The lower level and tall column cabinets are finished in wood, while the upper cabinets are white and extend to the ceiling. The backsplash and countertop harmonize with the terrazzo floor.
Dining area: a dark wood dining table surrounded by soft chairs with semi-circular backs on slender metal legs.
Living room: a substantial modular sofa and a deep armchair in a sandy tone. A minimalist TV console continues the line of the wall panels.
Storage: concealed built-in wardrobes and open illuminated shelving for books and décor.
Décor: “TV-as-art” interior screens (such as Samsung The Frame), ceramic vases.
Design techniques
Visual expansion: using the same materials (wood) in different zones visually unifies the space.
Concealed installation: doors without trim and built-in appliances create a seamless, “architectural” look.
Natural accent: wood is used not only in furniture but also in wall finishes, making the contemporary interior feel warm and inviting.
Hall
Hall / entryway 5.51 m²
Accent wall: the main feature is a large round mirror with soft contour LED backlighting. It visually doubles the narrow corridor. The mirror intersects with a suspended wooden console and vertical slatted panels, creating a complex geometric composition.
Entrance zone: to the left of the door there is an open niche for clothing with a soft bench and hooks, integrated into the overall volume of wooden cabinets. Space for shoes is provided beneath the seat.
Concealed doors: to avoid fragmenting the walls, flush “invisible” doors painted to match the wall color (taupe/beige) are used. This allows the doors to the bathroom and dressing room to almost “dissolve” into the space.
Rounded forms: one of the corridor corners is softened — a curved wall smooths the transition toward the kitchen–dining area and improves circulation ergonomics.
Lighting: in addition to the decorative mirror backlighting, recessed ceiling spotlights and a light strip inside the wardrobe niche are used. Hidden perimeter lighting is also integrated into the ceiling.
Entrance dressing room 2.37 m²
Despite its compact size, the dressing room is designed with maximum efficiency.
Storage system: open shelves for boxes and hats at the top, a hanging rail for long outerwear, a block of pull-out drawers for accessories, and shelving with narrow shelves for shoes or folded items.
Utility zone: space for a robot vacuum cleaner is предусмотрено at the lower level, keeping equipment out of sight.
Finishes: the flooring in the dressing room and entryway is durable light terrazzo porcelain stoneware, practical for the entrance area.
Bedroom
The 14.2 m² bedroom design continues the overall aesthetic of the apartment: coziness, visual softness, and restraint. A large built-in wardrobe is provided, saving usable floor area.
Finishes and materials
Walls: soft, enveloping shades (beige, taupe) identical to the palette of the hall and living room.
Flooring: unlike the “wet” areas, warm wood flooring laid straight is used here.
Textiles: the windows are dressed in layers — light white sheers combined with dense blackout curtains for comfortable sleep.
Lighting and décor
Main lighting: the ceiling zone is supplemented with recessed spotlights for even, ambient illumination.
Accent lighting: concealed LED lighting above the bedside tables or in the headboard area creates a “floating wall” effect and a cozy evening atmosphere.
Stylistic elements: the same decorative techniques as in the living room are used, such as wall décor or a TV panel in a thin frame resembling a piece of art.
Furniture
Bed: the central element is a bed with a soft bouclé-upholstered headboard.
Storage systems: the built-in wardrobe fronts are finished in wood or wall-matching colors to avoid visual overload and preserve a sense of openness.
Vanity table: a suspended wooden vanity near the window.
Mirror: a large mirror with concealed contour lighting is placed above the vanity.
Bathroom
Layout
The washbasin is positioned immediately at the entrance for convenience. A wide sink is mounted on a wall-hung vanity, leaving the floor free and visually lightening the interior.
The bathtub occupies the right side of the room. It is integrated into a tiled enclosure, creating a single monolithic surface. A wide “rain shower” head is installed above.
The wall-hung toilet with concealed installation is placed in a separate zone, with a hidden cabinet above it for household storage. A hygienic shower is installed next to the toilet.
Materials and palette
Floor and wall finishes: porcelain stoneware with a terrazzo texture is used, matching the material applied in the hall and kitchen. The focal element of the bathtub area is a luxurious porcelain stoneware panel with a dark marble effect, featuring deep chocolate and milky veining. The rich, dark stone stands out dramatically against the light base tiles and neutral vanity fronts.
Equipment and storage systems
Utility zone: on the right side of the bathroom (opposite the entrance), a deep niche conceals the washing machine. Shelves for towel storage are located above.
Concealed installation: all utilities and meters are neatly hidden behind cabinet fronts.
Lighting and mirrors
Mirror: above the sink, a large mirror with contour backlighting visually enlarges the space.
Main lighting: recessed ceiling spotlights provide even illumination without harsh shadows.
Loggia
Thanks to its generous area (6.6 m²), the loggia has become an additional micro-room with a relaxation corner that complements the kitchen–dining area.
Glazing and light: the loggia features panoramic glazing, ensuring maximum natural light for the dining zone.
Floor finish: light terrazzo-textured porcelain stoneware.
Walls and ceiling: the walls are painted in a warm beige base tone, while the ceiling is equipped with recessed spotlights for comfortable evening use.
Furniture and storage: at the end of the loggia (on the right), a spacious built-in wardrobe for seasonal storage is designed, with fronts finished to match the walls for an “invisible” effect. The remaining space allows for a pair of light armchairs and a coffee table, creating a cozy nook for reading or breakfast.
